This section tries to gather the initiatives and projects that not being thought for VoIP can help or have importance in VoIP development.

Any development of Internet, for example the increase of bandwidth can affect the improvement of the VoIP quality, as well.

The development and advance of wireless networks (or wifi) let us use ours VoIP telephones in different places (hotels, airports, etc...) Within these initiatives, the FON project tries to create the greatest global community who share their WiFi networks. This way, increasing the cover of wifi networks, there will be able to use our voip telephones in almost any place.

Another very interesting development is WIMAX or WirelessMAN is a specification for fixed broadband wireless MANs (Metropolitan Access Networks). Wimax supports very high bit rates in both uploading to and downloading from a base station up to a distance of 30 miles to handle such services as VoIP, IP connectivity and TDM voice and data. With the development of wimax we could have whole cities with Internet access and in which we can be able to use our voip phones for free.
